Lizard Kings Not out Yet Victory Keeps Hopes Flickering

Don't count the Jacksonville Lizard Kings out of the East Coast

Hockey League playoffs just yet.

Last night's 5-4 shootout victory over Charlotte in front of

4,123 in the home finale at the Coliseum keeps the Lizard Kings

alive for the eighth and final Southern Conference playoff spot.

And even though Jacksonville (32-29-6) needs a lot of help to

make the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, coach

Bruce Cassidy said he hasn't given up hope.

"It's not as bleak as it looks," Cassidy said. "We're alive."

Maybe, but not by much. Should Baton Rouge beat Mobile tonight,

the Lizard Kings would be eliminated. To make the playoffs,

Jacksonville (70 points) must win its remaining three games and

have the following also happen:

Baton Rouge (75 points) must lose its last two games.

Mobile (74 points) has to beat Baton Rouge tonight and lose its

final two games.

Mississippi (73 points) must split its final two games. …
