Young `Star' Singing at Suwannee River Jam

Article excerpt

Denise Manning of Macclenny placed first in the "Search for the

Stars" talent competition, part of the preliminary festivities

for the upcoming Suwannee River Jam. The contest's final round

was held March 7 at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, which

will be host to the country music festival April 3 and April 4.

With that win, Manning earned an opening slot on the jam's

second day of music.

Manning, a 15-year-old sophomore at Baker County High School,

won the competition over representatives from nine other

counties from South Georgia and North Florida.

Manning sang four songs with her band, the Stateliners

(guitarists Chuck Haynie, Chuck Crockett and Dink Thornton,

drummer Rick Fryfield and bassist Cliff McClain).

"I love to perform, and that is what I want to do for a

living," Manning said.

Manning will open the second day of the festival, preceding

Diamond Rio on the lineup. Tallahassee's Whiskey River Band will

open the jam on April 3. For more information, call (904)
