Visiting Fans Give Gator High Marks

From the beaches to The Landing, from the cart path to the

Riverwalk, Virginia Tech and North Carolina fans in town for

yesterday's Toyota Gator Bowl gave the area rave reviews for its

amenities and hospitality.

"We've been to Miami and New Orleans in the last two years, and

those bowls can't compare with how we get treated in

Jacksonville," said Randy Jones, president of the

Charlottesville, Va., Hokie Club. "The bowl committees in those

towns seemed to think that since we're in big cities, they

didn't need to help us find places to go or good restaurants.

The Gator Bowl people were outstanding."

"I don't think you could find a bad place to stay or a bad

place to eat in Jacksonville," added Jim Johnson of Raleigh,

N.C., a Tar Heels fan who has made five of his school's Gator

Bowl trips since the 1977 game against Michigan. "It's always a

good experience here."

Visiting fans seemed to feel that the variety of activities

available in Jacksonville make it an attractive bowl site. …
