Playoff Would Mean Putting Up, Shutting Up

Put a sock in the playoff talk. I don't care if you get all the

university presidents and all the coaches to agree to work it

out.

A playoff would ruin college football.

Blasphemy, you say? Gee, I didn't know you could spell

blasphemy, let alone use it in a sentence.

Think of all the possibilities that wouldn't exist if the NCAA

went to a tournament for Division I-A similar to its I-AA

tournament. Tennessee fans couldn't make their annual

end-of-the-season argument that the Volunteers are better than

the Gators, because they'd have to play them again and actually

beat them. Not that Florida would want any part of a second

go-round this year.

Big Ten and Pac-10 fans could no longer hide behind their ties

to the Rose Bowl because they would have to play the Nebraskas

and Florida States of the world.

Brigham Young fans would have to shut their pie holes and

cancel calls to their lawyers after getting a mudhole stomped in

them in the first round of the tournament. …
