It was homecoming last night at First Coast High School, but

the Buccaneers had a road trip in mind.

Immediately after dispatching Englewood 19-0, senior

defensive lineman Gaylon Thompson led the entire First Coast

squad in a rhythmic chant of "Ed White. Ed White." During his

post-game talk to his team, Bucs coach Marty Lee couldn't resist

chanting the name of next week's road opponent.

"We were a little bit preoccupied," said Lee. "I talked to

[White coach] Dan Disch earlier this week and agreed to be 6-0

entering the contest. We held up our end of the bargain."

The reason that First Coast is 6-0 and off to its best start

ever is the defense, which recorded the third shutout in team

history.

"They might be the best-kept secret in the city," said Lee.

"They know what we are going to do, but they still can't get by

the defense."

The defense also scored the first points with five minutes

left in the first quarter. …
