ATLANTA -- Georgia Tech defensive end Ralph Hughes looked in the

mirror at his sculpted body one day last season and liked what

he saw.

"I said I was going to be like Zeus, the ultimate warrior,"

Hughes jokingly told his teammates.

The nickname stuck, and for the first time in his career as a

four-year starter last Saturday night, Hughes played like a

mythical king of gods in the Yellow Jackets' 23-20 victory over

Clemson.

Turning in the most important defensive performance in Tech's

biggest victory in nearly a year, Hughes logged a careerhigh 10

tackles, two sacks and a pressure, and he caused a fumble by

quarterback Nealon Green late in the game. He was named the ACC

Defensive Lineman of the Week Tuesday.

"I told Ralph, `Once you play like that, you're expected to

play like that all the time,' " Tech coach George O'Leary said.

"That's what I've been waiting for him to do for two years now. …
