Residents Grill Police on Live Call-In

Article excerpt

Traffic, youth gangs and parental responsibility were some of

the topics raised Thursday as Mandarin and Southside residents

put police on the spot during the Jacksonville Sheriff's

Office's live public affairs television show.

Thirteen people had questions for assistant chief Justin Hill,

Lt. Rick Emery and Sgt. John Anderson, as they sat in for the

live call-in Signal 94 show at MediaOne's Southside studios.

The show is named after the police code for information, and

hosted by sheriff's office public affairs coordinator Harry

Reagan at 8:30 p.m. each Thursday on cable Channel 25. Each week

said officers are kept very busy.

"We handle a huge amount of calls for service this year and in

past years, and with the growth up the Butler Boulevard

corridor, that is going to continue," said Emery. "Traffic is

our main concern."

Mandarin traffic was also the concern of the first of the

callers, all of whom were referred to by their first names.

"I was wondering if you have any solutions for the continual

bottleneck we have in Mandarin, northbound San Jose Boulevard in

particular," said Andy. …
