The Bolles School's Mary Lawlor capped a strong freshman season

with a fifth-place finish at the state cross-country meet last

November. She has looked just as strong so far this season.

Lawlor has had a solid start, finishing second in the season's

first two big meets, mainly because of better focus.

"Bolles has a really young team and it's kind of forcing me to

buckle down," Lawlor said. "Before, I was one of the younger

people, and now I'm one of the older people. I'm just more

focused."

Lawlor finished behind Boca Raton Spanish River's Sara Darling

at the Jacksonville Track Club Invitational at The Dunes Sept.

12, finishing the 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 29 seconds.

She finished behind Stanton's Erin Merten at the season-opening

HealthSouth/Jacksonville Orthopedic Institute meet at Bishop

Kenny on Sept. 5. Her 19:32 was 12 seconds faster than teammate

Jessica Czervionke, who finished third, and helped the Bulldogs

claim the team title over Kenny. …
