The Corel WTA Tour is adding four new tournament sites in 1998,

increasing next year's prize money to more than $39 million

compared to $38 million this year. In 1990, the tour offered

women $23 million in prize money.

The tour's new stops will be the Colombia Open in Bogota,

Colombia, the week of March 30; the Makarska Ladies Open in

Makarska, Croatia, the week of April 13; the Enka Ladies Open in

Istanbul, Turkey, the week of Aug. 3; and the Sumsung Women's

Open in Seoul, Korea, the week of Sept. 14.

The Colombia event is the WTA's first venture into South

America since the Nivea Cup in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in December

1992.

FREE EXHIBITION TODAY -- The ATP Tour Club will hold a free

exhibition match at 1 p.m. today at the Ponte Vedra Club on A1A.

The exhibition features Ricardo Acuna, ATP director of tennis,

against ATP Tour player Martin Stringari, currently ranked 120.

SAACKE GETS AWARD -- Chuck Saacke, director of tennis at

Sawgrass Country Club, received a national award from the United

States Professional Tennis Association for his teaching,

programming, tournaments, playing and charitable work last year

when he worked at a club in Kentucky.

TEACHER CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP -- The United States

Professional Tennis Registry will conduct a Tennis Teacher

Certification Workshop at the City Island Tennis Center in

Daytona Beach Oct. 4-5. For information, call the USPTR at

PLAY DAY AT ATP -- A Play Tennis America play day will be held

from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the ATP Tour headquarters, 200

ATP Tour Blvd, off A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach. The day is for

players who have participated in the Play Tennis America Program

or for entry level players who have not participated in an

organized league or tournament. Call (904) 285-6400 by Sept. 11

to sign up.
