Article excerpt

A Jacksonville Beach woman died yesterday morning after the car

she was in ran a red light and collided with a truck on

University Boulevard West.

In a later unrelated wreck, an Orange Park delivery driver was

killed when he was thrown out the open door of his potato chip

truck on Interstate 95 near Baymeadows.

In the first accident, a truck driven by Lee Bradley, 52, of

the 6200 block of Gloucester Road, was eastbound in the 5200

block of University Boulevard West shortly before 10 a.m. when a

car turned from Richard Street into the truck's path, said Sgt.

J.L. Suber of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Bradley hit his

brakes but couldn't avoid the car driven by Carol Steyerman, 70,

of Ponte Vedra Beach.

Steyerman's passenger, 40-year-old Jean Harris of the 1100 block

of North First Street in Jacksonville Beach, died at the scene.

Steyerman was in stable condition last night at University

Medical Center.

About four hours later, James Joseph Cattar, 61, of Orange Park

died after hitting his head on the road when his Charles Chips

truck slid into a guardrail as he tried to avoid rear-ending a

car that stopped abruptly in front of him, said Lt. Bill Leeper,

of the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 2 p.m.

in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Baymeadows Road

and Southside Boulevard.

Leeper said when the truck hit the guardrail, Cattar, who

wasn't wearing a seat belt, was tossed out the open passenger's

side door.
