A look at some of the items to be considered by the Jacksonville

City Council in its meeting at 6:30 tonight.

ISSUE: Final approval on a $51 million downtown hotel project

that is seeking $17 million in government incentives.

Jacksonville developer Bucky Clarkson wants to build the 23-story

hotel east of the Prime Osborn Convention Center and Interstate

Hotels wants to manage it. The incentives package includes tax

breaks and infrastructure improvements.

What it means: Revitalization of a blighted area, jobs for 400

people, and a boost for the underperforming convention center.

ISSUE: The Jacksonville Transit Authority will make a

presentation on mass transit. Council President Jim Overton

sought the presentation based on a promise made in July when the

JTA sold the council on a $105 million bond package for

transportation needs in Jacksonville. The bond designated $6.5

million for mass transit.

What it means: The presentation will show what improvements JTA

is making in mass transit. …
