Police Seek Suspect in Felony Murder

Article excerpt

Police are searching for a man they say took part in a home

invasion that ended with a Jacksonville couple getting shot

seven times before the wife fatally shot one of the three

A warrant has been issued charging Robert Gerald Walls, 21,

with felony murder and armed robbery in a home invasion that

erupted into a shootout Saturday in the 14200 block of Lem

Turner Road.

Although Walls has a joker tattooed on his right arm, police

said capturing him is no laughing matter.

"Walls is a habitual felony offender who is known to arm

himself," said Lt. David Gueterman, supervisor of the

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit. "He's also passed

on information that he will not go back to jail and won't be

taken by police."

Police said Walls has access to three "AK-47-type assault

rifles" and a .9mm handgun with a laser sight.

On Saturday, Michael Gon zalez, 33, was shot five times and

his 38-year-old wife, Susan, twice after robbers burst into their

doublewide mobile home around 12:40 a.m., police said. The

couple's son, Michael Jr., said his stepmother told him that

after she was shot she returned fire with a gun she owns and hit

one of the intruders.

Raymond M. Waters Jr., 22, of the 5900 block of Gilchrist Road,

was found dead in the couple's front yard. Under Florida's

felony murder law, a suspect can be charged with murder if

anyone, including an accomplice, dies during commission of some

felonies, including armed robbery.

A third man is also wanted in the home invasion, Gueterman

said, but little is known about him.

Michael Gonzalez was treated at University Medical Center and

released this week. He could not be reached for comment last

Susan Gonzalez is still recovering at the hospital. Relatives

asked hospital officials not to release her condition.

Police said Waters and Walls were part of a crew of men who

specialize in home invasion robberies. …
