"We got enough penalties last year to last us for the next two

years."

-- Jimmy Smith, speaking about the presence of officials

at practice to help the team become more aware of penalties.

Attendance: Morning 500, Afternoon 450.

Weather: Temperatures in the low 90s.

Play of the day: Reggie Barlow beat Aaron Beasley for a long

touchdown in the 7-on-7 drills.

Catch of the Day: TE Derek Brown made a over-the-shoulder catch

of a deep pass in the morning practice.

Hit of the Day: LBs Bryan Schwartz and Tom McManus made a big

hit on Randy Jordan in the goal-line drill.

Run of the Day: In the 9-on-7 drill, Natrone Means juked Chris

Hudson and made a nice run around left end.

Injury Report: Deon Figures, slight ankle sprain; Dave Thomas,

slight hamstring pull.

Who's Hot: Rookie DT Seth Payne has continued to impress with

his strength; LB Al Wallace batted away a pass in man coverage;

DT John Jurkovic made several plays in the 9-on-7 drills in the

morning; WRs Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell continue to look

good.

Who's Not: During the goal-line drill, the defense allowed three

easy scoring passes. The offense didn't get much push at the

point of attack in the goal-line drill. After two good days,

rookie Damon Jones struggled in the morning practice.

practices. The team worked on goal-line offense -- both going in

and out -- for the first time yesterday. In the afternoon, the

Jaguars worked on blitz drills.

"I'm encouraged by the contact this morning," Coughlin said.

"The tempo picked up with the 9-on-7 and after that the practice

went pretty good."
