TEAM WAVE

The St. Simons Island Wave, a girls softball team, will start

play today in the National Softball Association Youth World

Series in Charlotte, N.C., and Rock Hill, S.C.

The four-day, double elimination tournament has attracted 250

teams to compete for national championships in five age groups

that top out at 19 and under. The Wave, which won Georgia's

state championship in Albany June 21, is competing in the 14 and

under age group.

Macon and qualified for the team in invitation-only tryouts,

coach Bert Flexer said. Although most players are on school and

recreation department teams, they have been competing against

other traveling teams since April in weekend tournaments.

county leases behind the First Baptist Church of Palm Valley on

Florida A1A. Athletic association members asked the St. Johns

County Commission Tuesday to consider paying to move the

four-bedroom oceanfront home 3 miles to the park site.

So far, 22 non-profit or charitable organizations have

responded to owner Tom and Glory Sullivan's offer, which says

the home can be theirs if they are willing to pay to move it by

September. The commission could vote on it as early as its July

29 meeting. …
