New-Look Moto Lounge Makes Room for More Bands

Article excerpt

Lisa Buchheimer has had designs on expanding the modern

rock-leaning Moto Lounge ever since it opened. Now that its

a done deal, you'd have a harder time finding a happier

soul downtown.

"I have been trying to get the space next to me [216. W. Adams

St.] for the longest time," said Buchheimer, the club's owner.

"Finally, our landlord [First Union] gave us permission to use

it. So we just cut a hole into the wall, and it gave us around

The new-look Moto officially debuted last Friday at a punk show

featuring Thorazine and Innerscarlet. The retooled club now

furnished backroom, and two added video games. While there was

consistently booked local original bands, but has also hosted

some of the hippest names in modern rock: Squirrel Nut Zippers,

L7, Supersuckers, as well as avantgarde musicians like Sam

Rivers and Matthew Shipp.

Dovetonsil re-groups: Local prog-rock group Dovetonsil hasn't

been making much noise of late -- which tends to be the case

when when a band breaks up and re-forms.

The band, led by drummer/composer John Citrone, fragmented

last fall, several months after releasing its wellreceived debut

CD, Mushrooms & Bugshoes . …
