As you can probably figure out from his name, Chattanooga third

baseman Pete Rose Jr. has been around baseball his entire life.

And although he has come to hear the adage "Baseball's a funny

game," over and over, it certainly didn't give him any comfort

last night as the Jacksonville Suns beat his Lookouts 5-3 in

front of 1,127.

Rose had three hits and hit a two-run home run in the eighth

inning to give the Lookouts a 3-1 lead. However, after the Suns

tied the game in the bottom of the inning, Rose threw away Del

Marine's sharply hit ground ball to allow two runs to score.

"That's a tough play for him to make," said Marine, who with

two walks and a strikeout had yet to put the ball in play. "He

had to come in and he had to make a tough throw. It's tough to

give him an error and it's tough to give me a hit."

What it does do is give the Suns (3-1) their sixth win in their

last seven games. It also hands Chattanooga (4-1) its first loss

in the Southern League's second half. …
