The first four games of the Jacksonville Suns' series against

Knoxville have been characterized by strong winds blowing in,

keeping scoring at a minimum.

That sits well with Suns starter Matt Drews, who pitched nine

strong innings for his third complete game of the season as the

Suns defeated Knoxville 5-1 last night in front of 1,183 at

Wolfson Park.

The victory cuts Knoxville's lead in the Southern League's

Eastern Division to 4 1/2 games.

"It [the wind] knocked a few balls down in this game," said

Drews (4-6), who allowed just three hits, walked four and struck

out a season-high seven. "I wouldn't mind if the wind was

blowing in every time I pitched. It kind of makes this ballpark

fair."

Del Marine's two-run home run in the eighth inning was the

first of the series for the Suns and only the third for either

team.

Consistency has been a problem for Drews this season, with his

last solid start coming a month ago when he pitched a three-hit

shutout against Memphis. …
