5 Clay Soccer Teams Are Top District Seeds

Clay County soccer teams are on the verge of a successful year

as district play begins next week. Five teams are seeded No. 1

in district play. If the top-seeded team wins its district

tournament, it would be allowed to host a regional game.

The top two teams go on to play in the regionals. All

tournaments are single elimination.

BOYS

District 2-6A At Lake Cit

Team: Orange Park, No. 2 in Class 6A, 16-0-4

Leading scorer: Michael Haake and Sam Delucca with 7 goals.

Seventeen different players have scored this season.

Assist leader: Michael Haake with 10 assist.

First game: No. 1 seeded Raiders play the winner of No. 3 seed

Sandalwood vs. No. 2 seed Tallahassee Leon, 6 p.m., Wednesday.

Coach's comments: "This is not as explosive an offensive team

as last year but we are better defensively. Goal keeper Brandon

Gray [12 shutouts] has played well. Jamie Fletcher has given 100

percent effort while Al Fiumano has been dynamic. Also, give

Chad Todd credit for his hustle."

Team: Middleburg, 7-13-4

Leading scorer: David Dorr with 20 goals

Assist leader: Nathan Davie with 16 assists

First game: No. 4 Middleburg vs. No. 2 Tallahassee Lincoln,

Monday, 6 p.m.

Coach's comments: "We have made a lot of progress for a team

without a lot of club soccer players. Our goal keeper Grayson

Avery along with David Dorr, Nathan Davie and Josh Generazio

have played well all year. Our defense has improved with the

return of Brian Guertin from the cross-country team." -- Ed

District 4-3A At Lee High School

Team: Clay, 8-10-1

Leading scorer: Jeremy Robins, 9 goals

Assist leader: Matt Dixon, 12

First game: No. 1 seed Clay plays winner of No. 4 Paxson vs.

No. 5 Ribault, 7 p.m., Wednesday

Coach's comments: "We are playing our best soccer now. We

played The Bolles School, Bishop Kenny and Orange Park in close

games that we would have lost by a lot more the last few years.

We are learning to play possession soccer even with only two

seniors."
