RABIES ALERT

A rabies alert was announced yesterday, following the discovery

of a rabid fox last Thursday night in southwest Duval County.

The fox was found on Brett Forest Drive when a man heard a

scratching noise outside the house, went out in his yard, and it

came toward him. It bit him on a toe. He shot it dead, said Gale

Tucker, state quarantine officer with the Duval County Health

man was started on a series of rabies vaccinations on Friday,

Tucker said.

Yesterday the health department issued an alert, in which pet

owners who live within a mile of the fox are asked to make sure

their animals' vaccinations are up to date.

County's current batch of sixth-graders have all the necessary

shots. …
