ATLANTIC BEACH -- Commissioner Tim Reed spent part of Monday

night's meeting, his last in Seat 3, voting for the person to

fill the cushioned chair, at least until October.

Reed, who is moving to Houston because of a job opportunity

with his company, joined three other city commissioners in

selecting Louis "Mike" Borno to fill the remainder of his term.

Mayor Lyman Fletcher cast his vote for former Commissioner

Dezmond Waters.

Reed took part in the selection process after the commission

decided he could cast a ballot on the issue.

"Someone can run for mayor while still sitting on the

commission," Reed said in support of the motion to allow him to

cast a vote.

But not all the commissioner agreed that Reed should be able to

vote for a replacement. Commissioner Suzanne Shaughnessy said

the group should wait until Reed leaves the council to select

his replacement.

"I'm still opposed to replacing someone while the chair is

still warm," Shaughnessy said. …
