Claiborne Warehouse May Make Tracks Here

Article excerpt

Liz Claiborne Shoes, J. Wayne Weaver's other Jacksonville

company, is taking steps toward a significant local expansion.

Weaver, majority owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars National

Football League franchise, is considering development of a major

Jacksonville distribution center to handle Liz Claiborne

footwear.

"We are looking to relocate our warehousing to Jacksonville,"

Weaver told a Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce meeting this

week.

LC Footwear LLC, the company's formal name, imports its shoes

and distributes them through a 125,000square-foot leased

or build a structure.

Prescott said LC Footwear is working with an out-of-town

consultant to determine whether it would be economically

feasible to move the distribution function to Jacksonville.

"We're hoping to get the report from the consultant at the end

of this year and then . . . make the decision early next year,"

he said.

New York-based Liz Claiborne Inc. agreed in mid-1995 to license

its dress and sport-shoe business to Weaver, who made a name for

himself as chairman of Shoe Carnival Inc. …
