Grammy-Winning Pianist Bob James Joins Jazz Festival Lineup

Article excerpt

Pianist Bob James will replace bass virtuoso Stanley

Clarke on the WJCT Jacksonville Jazz Festival's lineup.

Clarke was forced to pull out of his Nov. 16 performance

due to scheduling problems. Clarke is reportedly working on a

movie soundtrack and has canceled both his Jacksonville and West

Palm Beach dates. Clarke has done the soundtracks for moves such

as Panther, Poetic Justice and Passenger 57.

James, a Grammy-winning player and producer, composed one of

television's most recognizable themes (Taxi). He will perform

with his trio at 5 p.m. Nov. 16.

Concerts: If platform shoes, wide lapels and polyester bring

back fond memories, then you won't want to miss K.C. and the

Sunshine Band, who will play the Ramada Conference Center, 5865

Arlington Expressway, at 9 p.m. Nov. 2. Don't worry; disco has

survived long enough to go mainstream -- though K.C. was

actually more pop-funk than disco. You've probably heard tunes

such as I'm Your Boogie Man and Get Down Tonight on commercial

spots hawking Old El Paso salsa and Budweiser beer. Tickets are

$30. For information, call (904) 724-3410 or Ticketmaster at

(904) 353-3309 . . . Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. tomorrow for

Black Crowes, who will play the Florida Theater at 8 p.m. Nov.

30 (they'll be touring behind their recent American Recordings

album, Three Snakes and One Charm). Tickets are $24.50 plus

service charge. For information, call (904) 355-2787 or

Ticketmaster at (904) 353-3309 . . . Another hot rock and roll

show will be landing at the Florida Theater Dec. 28 when REO

Speedwagon and Foreigner team up for a double bill. Tickets

went on sale earlier this week for $32.50 and $27.50. Call the

at the Superdome, 5133 Soutel Drive, next week. This one

features New Orleans verbalist Mystikal. Tickets are $13 in

advance. Call (904) 765-8522.

Tickets are on sale for the master of the surf guitar, Dick

Dale, who will play The Milk Bar Dec. 1. Tickets for that show

are $10; call The Milk Bar at (904) 356-6455 for info. …
