Comstock Has One Hurdle Left

Article excerpt

Former Bishop Kenny and Auburn golfer Stephanie Comstock is

working her way onto the LPGA Tour and has one stop left: the

Tour's qualifying school Oct. 23-26 at the LPGA International

Course in Daytona Beach.

Comstock recently won a Futures Tour event in Albany, N.Y.

(vaulting into the lead for good with a third-round 66), then

tied for eighth the following week in Vermont. Then, during LPGA

pre-qualifying two weeks ago in Venice, she had a final-round 68

to finish in 18th place and earn a spot in the final Q-school.

Her caddie in those three events was her father Everett, the

superintendent at the Cecil Field Golf Course. Comstock also has

Golf Course in St. Augustine.

Assistants Mike Pisarek of Cimarrone, Mike Benjamin of Pine

Lakes, Will Gillis of Oak Bridge, Carl Ste. Marie of Quail

Heights, Scott Hudson of Pablo Creek, Mike Aaron of Palatka and

Dean Grunewald of Timuquana won singles matches but fell just

short of overcoming a 7 1/2-4 1/2 deficit.

The pros built their initial lead in the better ball and

alternate shot matches, with three of the twosomes winning two

matches each.

FAMILY MATTERS -- The Boselli and Hicken families are joining

forces to stage two charity golf tournaments next week.

On Oct. 21, WTLV TV-12 news anchor Donna Hicken and Angi

Boselli, the wife of Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Tony

Boselli, will lend their names and help to the St. Johns County

Education Golf Classic at Marsh Landing. …
