Playoffs a Challenge for Charlton

After living the good life atop Region 2-A the past two years,

the bottom may have dropped out of Charlton County.

"I believe we've looked closely at our players," said Charlton

coach Rich McWhorter. "For us to make the playoffs will be a

challenge."

McWhorter's fellow coaches in Region 2-A might find it hard to

put any weight into his statement considering his teams have won

the Region 2-A title four of the past six years.

Still though, taking a team that lost four starters on offense

and five on defense won't be an easy task.

"We've got spots that don't have people to fill them," McWhorter

said. "If we played eight-man football, we'd be in good shape."

Charlton doesn't, so McWhorter is counting on what's left of

last year's championship team to rub off on a crop of new faces.

Charlton lost two starters in the backfield, including standout

Roland "Champ" Bailey, who gained 5,855 yards during his three

years at running back and quarterback for Charlton. …
