Clinch County head football coach Cecil Barber isn't buying it.

When he heard that Charlton head coach Rich McWhorter believed

Clinch would finish a the top of Region 2-A and his own team

would finish sixth, Barber couldn't help but let out a light

chuckle.

"Charlton probably has the best team in the region," Barber

said. "I look for them to be the No. 1 team."

Barber finds sixth place hard to believe because McWhorter's

team has won the last two Region 2-A titles and four of the last

six.

This doesn't mean however, that Barber believes Clinch will

finish sixth either.

"We're just shooting for No. 2 and making the playoffs," Barber

said.

Where either team will finish this season may depend how the new

teams added to a realigned Region 2-A will stack up this year.

Gone from the region is Turner County and Brooks County, which

will be replaced by Wheeler County, Hawkinsville and Telfair

County.

"We don't know what to expect from these teams," Barber said.

"We don't have a rivalry with any of them so we don't know what

to prepare for. Some of these teams may knock us off."

If Clinch is going to finish at or near the top of the region,

Barber thinks it will be due to speed.

"We got some guys we feel can run," Barber said. "We've got a

lot of depth in the backfield. …
