Regency to Host 2nd Police Substation

Article excerpt

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will open the second of five

proposed full-service police substations in October.

The location: Arlington's Regency Square mall.

"We're excited to be getting the substation in Arlington," said

Arlington police chief George Leuders. "Regency is a pretty

centralized location to manage all of Arlington. And although it

The placement of the substation at the old St. Vincent's

Medical Office on the southeast corner of the mall has not yet

space to continue its ongoing support for the Sheriff's Office

vision for police substations. The Regency substation will be

Wolfson High School on the Southside.

"Generally, anything you can do at the main police office

downtown can be done at the substation," said Leuders, who will

be housed at the new substation along with support staff.

Hours for the new substation haven't been decided yet, but will

likely be similar to mall hours, Burke said. Police presence

will also be more visible as officers use the substation for

roll calls.

The office now is undergoing interior renovations. Work is also

being done on the roof as part of a roof improvement project for

the entire mall. …
