Area's Piece of City Pie: $84 M Councilmen like New Plans

City councilmen John Crescimbeni and Jim Tullis say they are

satisfied with the city's capital improvement projects to be

completed during the 1996-97 fiscal year in Arlington's

districts 1 and 2.

Arlington will have more than $84 million in road, park, water

and sewer projects. The money will come from the city's general

fund budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Residents should expect to see some ongoing projects completed,

Tullis said.

"The administration was fair to all the 14 districts and to the

Arlington area, especially to District 2," Tullis said. "The

money won't take care of everything, but we're working as hard

as we can with the resources available."

"I can't complain," Crescimbeni said. "We've gotten a pretty

fair share of funds in Arlington over the last few years."

Here's a look at what's happening in Arlington:

Perhaps one of the most popular projects will be construction

of the Arlington ExpresswaySouthside Boulevard interchange,

adding direct access to Southside Boulevard and Monument Road

from the expressway.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority spokesman Charlie Dixon

said the project is one of 22 priority projects for which the

JTA received money for next year.

Monument Road is being widened from Regency Square Boulevard to

Fort Caroline Road. The JTA will do the work from Regency Square

Boulevard to McCormick Road, at a price tag of $9 million. The

city will pick up the tab from McCormick to Fort Caroline for

about $3 million.

Dixon said the Monument Road project is in the right-ofway

acquisition stage.

Plans to renovate the Regency Square branch library will get

under way as soon as the Southeast branch library is completed

in spring 1997. The city has allotted $1 million for the

renovation during the 1996-97 fiscal year. …
