An item in yesterday's In Short Jacksonville on page

B-1 about free physicals for school athletes should have noted

that students getting the physicals must be accompanied by their

coach and should contact their school's athletic department about

scheduling an appointment. Also, boys will report to Nemours

Children's Clinic and girls should go to Baptist Medical Center,

with high school athletes going Saturday, and middle school

athletes going Aug. 17.

Glen Brown of Douglas, Ga., told his son, Matthew, 18, that

he would have this epitaph engraved on Matthew's tombstone:

"I'm hungry."

Brown said he has been amazed at the gargantuan appetite

that his son, like most teenage boys, exhibits regularly. The

father said a classic example happened when his wife, Sylvia ,

brought home a bag full of fortune cookies. Matthew grabbed a

handful of them and ran into the den.

Later, as he came back for more, his mother asked, "What was

your fortune?"

The boy, with a mixture of nausea and surprise, asked: "Those

were fortune cookies?"

Apology accepted

City Councilman Jim Tullis has accepted a written apology from a

City Hall attorney who sharply criticized him in a letter that

was sent, in error, to every one of his colleagues.

Theresa Rooney Matchett wrote to Tullis in June after he

criticized her legal representation in a committee meeting. She

said she did not want to continue representing the committee

with Tullis as chairman.

In a two-sentence apology, Matchett said she never intended to

cause embarrassment. …
