Society, a story Tuesday on Page C-2 misstated the location

of the Grief of Animal Loss Support Group meetings. The

group meets 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at

the Regency branch library.

Love of pets and grief over their loss can be deeply felt,

although not everyone responds with sympathy.

Jean Snodgrass, founder and president of the non-profit GOAL

group, said she constantly counsels people to ignore the

unsympathetic remarks of people who say, "It's just a dog," or

"Just a cat."

"People who would say that to you are not good friends," she

said. Her group offers a 24-hour counseling line. "I've gotten

calls at 4 a.m. from people who needed to talk," Snodgrass said.

There are several formal ways of dealing with pet deaths in

Jacksonville.

The Humane Society's pet cemetery, with graves going back to

the early 1930s, just last year was declared sold out, but the

society still offers formal cremations. …
