Radney Nears Women's Record

Article excerpt

Susan Radney had the night of her life last Thursday in the

Cassat Mixed Scratch league when she rolled her first 700

series. Radney rolled games of 279, 265 and 213 for a 757

series, just 24 pins short of the JWBA city series record held

by Barbara Batt.

The first game saw the young right-hander chop a split for an

open in the first frame and then she took it off the sheet with

11 strikes in a row for the 279, a career high. In the second

game, she started with a spare and another split before reeling

off nine more strikes and a nine count for a 265. She stayed

clean in the final game except for another split in the seventh

frame, finishing with a 213.

Radney bowls in two leagues and carries a 185 average.

Perfect games flourished around the city last week as four

bowlers reached the plateau. Ricky Heffner rolled his third

perfect game last Thursday in the Classic Trio league at Bowl

America Orange Park. Heffner used a break in the fifth frame

when he hit the ball too hard (got too much lift) and the shot

went Brooklyn for the strike. Heffner also had games of 200 and

227 for a 727 series.

Dan Payne rolled his third perfect game last Thursday in the

Phoenix Mixed Scratch league. He got a break in the second frame

when he jerked the ball and the shot went Brooklyn for the

strike. Payne started the night with a 188 and 214 before the

300 game for a 702 series.

Skipper Ruble nailed his second perfect game Monday night in

the Westside Unisex League at Cassat Lanes. He struggled the

first two games when he was not able to hit his target and was

only able to manage a 200 and a 175. Then came the perfect game,

pushing the series to a 675.

Ed Blandford rolled his fifth perfect game Monday night, also

in the Unisex league. …
