To prosecutors, James Arthur Grimes is a vengeful ex-employee

who planted a bomb that killed an innocent man.

To his attorneys, he's Jim Grimes, a desperate guy who concocted

a story about a bomb to impress some men he thought could help

him.

The jurors selected yesterday will spend a week in U.S.

District Court in Jacksonville hearing the case against Grimes,

46. He is charged with planting a deadly pipe bomb at a

Jacksonville apartment complex. If convicted, he faces life in

prison and a $250,000 fine.

Sherwin Finlay, 70, was killed on March 19, 1990, when he lifted

the package left on his doorstep at the Cedar Cove apartments on

Confederate Point Road.

The creation of that bomb and its placement were carefully

plotted by Grimes, who wanted revenge on the complex's

management for firing him in 1989 from his maintenance job,
