Brock Named New Fitzgerald Coach

FITZGERALD, Ga. -- Fitzgerald High School approved the hiring of

a new football coach Friday morning.

Fitzgerald Athletic Director David Mims announced the hiring of

former Worth County coach Brent Brock around 9:30 a.m. after

months of job searching. Brock replaces Mark Daniel, who

resigned on Nov. 14, 1995, after a 1-9 season. Brock was

selected from approximately 70 applicants.

"We feel like we got a good one," Mims said. "He seems to have a

lot of morals, and he really likes the kids. We're very happy to

have him here."

Brock's contract was not extended for next season at Worth

County in mid-December by the Worth County School Superintendent

Allan Kimbro. Brock compiled a 21-21 record in four seasons at

the school.

Brock finished the 1994 and 1995 seasons at 8-3. All of this

year's losses were to state championship teams -- Cairo, Thomas

County Central and Crisp County.
