Heed Denied at Death as Dragons Fire Home

Article excerpt

NATIONAL LEAGUE GATESHEAD 1 WREXHAM 1 GATESHEAD were denied their first home win of 2019 after leaders Wrexham struck at the death on Tyneside.

Steven Rigg's third goal in two games saw a spirited Heed go close to ending their home drought.

Gateshead had to settle for a 1-1 draw as their winless run at the International Stadium stretched to six games.

"We were excellent for the first half-an-hour and Pears didn't have a save to make, so it was a late suckerpunch.

"We had to defend in the second half and did that really well, so the lads were really down and disappointed after the game.

"Myself and the supporters are also disappointed, but I'm not disappointed with the effort, commitment and desire.

"We deserved to win the game and can't let this affect us.

"We're unbeaten, will take a point and now have a massive game at Aldershot."

Gateshead were excellent in the opening 25 minutes against a Wrexham side that had clocked up 1,000 miles on the road this week. …
