Jockey Club Boss Gives Racing Qld the Thumbs Up

ROCKHAMPTON Jockey Club CEO Tony Fenlon has heaped praise on Racing Queensland (RQ) for its proactive approach in spreading the dollars for the connections of 27 juveniles racing at Callaghan Park tomorrow.

When 27 of the 28 two-year-old nominated for the $28,500 QTIS 2YO Maiden (1050m) were declared to run at acceptance time yesterday morning, RQ had no hesitation in making the correct call.

The governing body authorised the race to be split into three divisions of nine runners each with full prize money and QTIS bonuses applicable.

Therefore, all the youngsters including 12 debutants were assured of vital starts with many chasing prize money for qualification in the rich CYS 2YO Classic (1200m) to be run at Callaghan Park on April 13.

In fact, 16 of the 27 youngsters were graduates from last year's CYS thereby once again confirming the importance of that event as a nursery for runners at Rockhampton TAB race meetings.

"Hats off to RQ because they certainly did the right thing by the owners of these youngsters. It was a very positive move and much appreciated by all concerned and is very beneficial for the local industry", Fenlon said.

Neville Stewart's Oaklands Stud will supply six of the CYS runners in the three races including the promising Sidereus colt Pound For Pound in the first heat.

Oaklands will provide the likely favourite in the second QTIS 2YO in The Stockbroker (Sidereus- Special Deposit) who is to be ridden by Brisbane jockey Ron Stewart for trainer Tom Button.

Bank Teller, a half-sister by Wicked Style to The Stockbroker won the big QTIS 3YO Handicap at the Cairns TAB race meeting yesterday.

As well as The Stockbroker, Oaklands will be represented in the same race by the John Pointon trained Crime Boss (Wicked Style-No More Crime x Special Dane). …
