A Driving Image for Drug Prevention
From pictures of manatees to university logos, Florida's vast array of novelty license plates run the gamut. Now one is designed to encourage kids to stay away from drugs.
Yesterday, Gateway Community Services Inc. unveiled a new license plate to raise money for drug treatment programs while spreading the word about prevention.
The plate consists of the words "Keep Kids Drug Free" below a sketch of a boy and girl on a swing set. A Tallahassee elementary school student designed the plate, which has been available since the summer at county tag agencies across the state.
"It can make a difference in the lives of young people by providing awareness and funds," said Debra Vining, Gateway board member.
The Florida Legislature approved the plate last year. Gateway is one of eight Florida substance abuse programs that will benefit from sales of the plate.
The programs formed the Keep Kids Drug Free Foundation to spread funds from the plate sales to other community organizations throughout the state through grants. …
