RUNNING: Mackay Road Runners had an outstanding attendance at the annual Ocean International 5km and 8km handicap start race from the beautiful Quota Park parklands.

Approximately 90 members and casual day runners enjoyed the stunning but humid conditions as they meandered through to Town Beach and return for the 5km and beyond onto the Sandfly Creek Trail and return for the 8km.

Mackay Road Runners conduct several handicap start races based on individual members handicapped time. This proved very popular with all runners, enabling the not so fast runners to take the lead while the not so slow runners chase them down.

Jason has been performing extremely well with significant improvements on display so far this year.

The fastest 8km runner was Toby Hulf in 32 minutes 24 seconds ahead of Leon Ryan (32:40), Tim Caddy (35:24) and Hayden Connor (35:45).

Fastest female in the 8km was Vicki Vickers (39:02) ahead of legendary veteran runner, Judy Zahn (39:42) and Jose Short (39:54).

Chris Colwell continued his fine form with a win in the 5km handicap start race ahead of Paul Arvidson and Fernanda DeLima.

Fernanda has been a stand out in her running this year and is one to watch in the overall handicap rankings as well as club championship races.

Fastest 5km male runner was Chris Colwell in 19 minutes four seconds, followed by Simba Walz (20:57) and Paul Arvidson (22:05). …
