JOIN Gladstone Region Mayor, Cr Matt Burnett, with guest speakers, for the official launch of the new season of exhibitions, at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from 6pm, tomorrow (Friday), April 12.

Welcoming two touring exhibitions, Submerged: Stories of Australia's Shipwrecks and Australien Future - tales of migration, the evening event will include the presentation of Intercity Images 2019: Gladstone Saiki Photographic Exchange certificates, as well as 2018 Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition certificates.

Presented by the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Australian Maritime Museum's Council membership, the national project Submerged, was developed during workshops held across the country sourcing shipwreck stories.

Sixty-eight shipwreck stories were nominated by 46 maritime museums and heritage institutions from around Australia, with 14 of the most compelling stories featured in the exhibition.

Submerged is supported by Visions of Australia, a government program aiming to improve access to cultural material with a focus on regional and remote Australia.

To showcase local maritime treasures, the Gallery & Museum is partnering with the Gladstone Maritime Museum during Submerged, continuing until May 4.

Supported with funding by Arts Queensland's Queensland Arts Showcase Program, Australien Future - tales of migration features paintings, film footage and sculptural works examining migration, by artist Deb Mostert.

Drawn from her family's migration in the 1950's, imagery is overlaid with the migration stories of our shorebirds.

Australien Future continues until May 25, as does the popular Intercity Images 2019: Gladstone Saiki Photographic Exchange.

A display of all 2019 Gladstone Region entries submitted, Intercity Images is an annual photographic exchange between Sister Cities, Gladstone Region and Saiki City, Japan. …
