Leaders in Tech Are Now Leaders in Business Too

NORTHUMBERLAND robotics pioneer Tharsus Group has powered its way to victory as the North East Company of the Year 2019.

The Blyth firm took the top prize at the grand final of the North East Business Awards 2019 last night, seeing off competition from Nice Network Ltd and Lexonik to win the title.

Led by chief executive Brian Palmer, the firm delivers 21st Century robotic technology to give customers including Ocado a clear competitive advantage.

Tharsus earned its place in the grand final of the North East Business Awards after triumphing as Tyneside and Northumberland Company of the Year in February.

Around 600 members of the region's business community gathered in a grand marquee within the grounds of Hardwick Hall, near Sedgefield, for the annual event, run by The Journal in conjunction with sister paper The Gazette and associate sponsors the North East England Chamber of Commerce.

On the night, 13 trophies were handed out in a ceremony hosted by presenters Alfie Joey and Ingrid Hagemann.

Helen Dalby, senior editor and head of digital for Reach Plc North East, launched the proceedings, using her speech to once again remind Westminster that the business community demand they get Brexit right within the existing fivemonth window.

But she added: "It is heartening to note that, at least locally, there has been much to celebrate over the last 12 months.

"The Great Exhibition of the North, Sunderland's Tall Ships and last weekend's splendid European Rugby Finals have repeatedly put the North East on a national and international stage. And it has absolutely shone.

"There is much still to look forward to, with August's World Transplant Games providing another opportunity to demonstrate the world-class destination NewcastleGateshead has proved itself to be. …
