On a late summer's evening in 2018, the tricky business of policing alien activity on Earth is back in full swing.

Dressed in the iconic black suit and tie, Tessa Thompson's new recruit Agent M is getting a guided tour of the London headquarters at the heart of the Sony Pictures science-fiction comedy spin-off Men in Black: International. The set is as big and beautiful as a department store, decorated in gleaming white tiles and casually populated with the latest compendium of wacky intergalactic extras.

"I am really trying to play it cool, which is what my character is doing all the time," says Thompson, cracking a smile. "But then I look around and think, "Oh my god, I am in a Men in Black movie."

M's attention will finally be drawn to the suave, very human shape of Chris Hemsworth, likewise outfitted in black suit and black tie. This is her new partner, Agent H, the other half of the film's new team.

"I've always been such a huge fan of the series," says Hemsworth. "Of course, there is always the pressure that comes with taking on something that has a beloved sort of following. But what really excited me was the opportunity to really do something different with it."

Directed by F. Gary Gray and produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, who have been custodians of the series since its inception in 1997, Men in Black: International is a new take on the science-fiction trilogy of eccentric adventures based on the comic-book series by Lowell Cunningham and Sandy Carruthers.

With Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones hanging up their shades in 2012, an opportunity presented itself to give the $1.6billion franchise a spectacular makeover.

"One of the ideas for continuing this franchise is to give it a global scope," says Thompson. "The idea is that there are MiB headquarters across the world. …
