Vickers Likes Gators Glades Central Wide Receiver Down to Three

Article excerpt

One of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the state, wide receiver Reggie Vickers of Belle Glade Glades Central, may be close to giving Florida his commitment.

Vickers (6-0, 185 pounds) said he has narrowed his choices to Florida, Auburn and West Virginia.

"Florida is definitely in the lead right now, but I haven't eliminated the other two just yet," Vickers said.

Vickers is a SuperPrep All-American rated the nation's No. 11 wide receiver by the publication, after pulling in 16 touchdown receptions as a senior. Vickers has caught more than 2,000 passing yards over the last two years and, though he has yet to qualify, is generally considered the state's best at his position.

Glades Central has sent a long line of talent to UF, including Fred Taylor, Reidel Anthony, Johnny Rutledge, Teddy Sims and Dwright Jackson.

COLON A 'CANE -- As reported in yesterday's T-U editions, OL Jonathan Colon (6-5, 290) of Miami Central confirmed that he is committed to Miami. Colon had been a top target for Florida. With the Colon news, expect the Gators to now intensify their recruitment of Merritt Island OL Kevin Deaton, who has been favoring Florida.

FSU NOTES -- The Seminoles are still awaiting word from Marrero (La.) Archbishop Shaw RB Shyrone Carey, who is expected to make a commitment this week and is favoring the Seminoles. Carey has yet to academically qualify. . . . WR Tony Brown (6-2, 190) of Ft. Lauderdale Aquinas is expected to decide this week from among FSU, Purdue, Tennessee and Michigan. . . . Lake City Columbia DB Tre Orr (6-2, 185), a Times-Union Super 11, Super 24 and Super 75 choice, hosted FSU coach Bobby Bowden in his home last night, but did not commit to the Seminoles. Orr is still considering Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and FSU, and is one of the few remaining prospects in the state for whom the Seminoles and Gators are competing head-to-head.
