Article excerpt

TO celebrate NAIDOC Week, one of the events at Gympie West State School was the Aussie of the Month parade with special presenter, music teacher Franki Andersen.

Franki started off by taking a moment to pay her respects with an Acknowledgement of Country.

She then told the children a bit about herself - how she loves music and animals and plays the piano and pipe organ at St Peter's Anglican Church.

She said she also loves the Avengers and her favourite is Iron Man.

The theme for NAIDOC Week this year was treaty, voice and truth.

Franki congratulated the June Aussie of the Month award winners and thanked everyone for listening so patiently.

Her parting thought was that you are important and wonderful and heaven knows what you have ahead of you.

"Never stop learning. Be ambitious," she said.

"Every single person here wants you to have an amazing life and we will help you if we can.

"Know your truth, find you voice, share it."
