10 Years for Rapist Caught in 999 Call; Romanian Attacker May Be Deported

A RAPIST whose horrific sex crime was recorded in a disturbing 999 call played to a jury is starting a long jail term and faces deportation.

Gheorghe Ilie, 32, forced himself on a sex worker in his home while her phone - connected to emergency services - captured the attack. He bit, hit and imprisoned the woman in his home, subjecting her to a degrading, humiliating ordeal and threatening to cut her throat.

Then he made the alarming claim he was "going to cut the throats of all the whores on the street" when he was arrested.

He met up with the woman and took her to his Middlesbrough home, agreeing on a sex act with her, Teesside Crown Court heard.

"She agreed to go back to your house with you for that purpose," said Judge Peter Armstrong.

"While in the house, you decided that you were going to have full sexual intercourse with her. She made it clear that she did not want that to happen, and told you on a number of occasions that she was not willing to have sex in that way. But you used violence against her to effect the rape."

The judge said Ilie bit her face, hit her, grabbed her, forced her on to a bed and forced himself on her.

She tried to get away but he threatened that he was "crazy" and would cut her throat.

She threw a knife out of the window in fear as drunken Ilie imprisoned her in the home "for a considerable period".

Ilie even followed her to the bathroom and tried to force himself on her there in the early hours of October 17 last year.

While he went to get her a glass of water, she called 999 and hid the phone in her bag as her tormentor reappeared.

The judge said: "The call was still connected to the operator.

"So for a period of about eight minutes the actual rape was recorded. And anyone listening to that recording, as we all did in the trial, cannot have been but disturbed by the sounds of the rape taking place. …
