MARCUS Browne has completed his move from West Ham to Middlesbrough, with Jonathan Woodgate describing his new attacking midfielder as an "exciting, hungry player".

The 21-year-old Londoner has put pen to paper on a reported four-year contract yesterday and could be named in the head coach's squad for Sunday's final friendly of the summer against Saint Etienne (ko 3pm).

Browne travelled to the Northeast from the capital on Thursday to undergo a medical and agree personal terms. Speaking to the Boro website, Woodgate said: "Marcus is an exciting, hungry young player who wants to come and play for this football club. He's just what we need.

"He can play in three different positions and he is quick. I watched a lot of games for Oxford last season and he's not only the type of player we want here, but he's also the type we can improve, and he will get better."

Browne added: "I felt at this stage and at this time, and after speaking to the gaffer and some of the players here, that this is the perfect move for me.

"I like to be direct, run at people, I like to be creative and attack. I feel like the style of play and philosophy the gaffer has here will suit me really well."

Browne's the first outfield player to join Boro since Woodgate's appointment but could soon be followed by at least one full-back.

Blackpool left-back Marc Bola, another 21-year-old Londoner, has been strongly linked with the club and Boro are believed to have made an approach.

Bola started his career with Arsenal before joining the Tangerines a year ago. …
