FREEDOM SHRINE -- Neptune Beach City Hall soon will showcase various historical documents, thanks to the Jacksonville Beaches Exchange Club.

At the request of local clubs, the National Exchange Club provides reproductions of some of its 30 Freedom Shrine documents such as the Declaration of Independence and John F. Kennedy's inaugural address on plaques, and installs the documents at local places.

It costs local clubs about $1,000 to order the Freedom Shrine documents from the national club. There was a similar shrine at the old Jacksonville Beach City Hall before it was torn down three years ago.

Jacksonville Beaches Exchange Club has already ordered the documents for the display at Neptune Beach City Hall, but city officials said they are not sure if they have arrived yet or when they will be installed.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES -- The Board of Trustees of the Police Officers and Firefighters Retirement Fund will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers at 116 First St.


ST. JOHNS NOMINEES -- Following are Teacher of the Year nominees from area St. Johns County schools: Karen Forfar, Landrum Middle School; Stephen Muskett, Nease High School; Dianne Sieg, Ocean Palms Elementary; Debrah Leonard, Ponte Vedra-Palm Valley Elementary; Jodi Johnson, Rawlings Elementary. The winner and two finalists will be announced at the annual Northrop Grumman Horizon Awards Banquet to be held March 30 at the First Coast Technical Center.

SCHOOL CHOICE -- Applications for students wishing to attend a school other than their zoned school in St. Johns County are being accepted by the Student Services office until Feb. 29.

The 2000-01 school year will be the first year of the district-wide implementation of the school choice plan and will involve elementary, middle and high schools. …
