DIVISION One leaders Lanchester recovered from a shaky start to defeat visitors Lintz by 20 runs.

Ben Fielding claimed two early wickets for struggling Lintz but Kieron Gohery scored 52 and Marc Ramshaw 33 - the pair putting on 60 for the third wicket.

Greg Halliday then made 49 to take Lanchester up to a respectable 191 all out, Fielding eventually claiming 4-49.

Lintz were restricted to 171 all out in their reply, Goherty claiming 3-42.

Alnmouth and Lesbury, in second place, won at home to Ryton to keep the pressure on Lanchester.

The home side batted first, opener Paul Straker contributing a magnificent 158 not out from 133 balls which included 17 fours and three sixes.

He put on 227 runs with Edward Brunton, who made 72 not out in a final total of 265-3. Ryton then collapsed to 116 all out as Dushan Hemantha returned excellent figures of 6-29 from nine overs.

Tynedale, in third and level on points with Alnmouth, were at Stocksfield.

The hosts collapsed to 61 all out as Matthew Scott took an excellent 5-11.

In reply, Euan Stephenson top-scored with 20 not out to see his side to victory on 62-3. Swalwell hosted Percy Main and the visitors struggled to score many runs against tight bowling.

They managed 154-6, Laurie Robson contributing 36 and Anthony Hornby 43 not out, while Nick Phillips claimed 4-27.

The home side then started badly, losing wickets early on, but Lloyd Anderson made 42 and Stephen Smith 34 not out as they repaired the innings.

However, David Anderson claimed an excellent 5-35 to win the match for his team by just 21 runs as Swalwell were dismissed for 133.

Newcastle City started well at Annfield Plain, Zohaib Khan amassing 60 and Sandeep Padmalaya 51 as they reached 189-9 - Sam Blake claiming 4-75 and Shane Oliver 3-47.

In reply, Plain lost wickets regularly and were all out for 124 as Ihsan Ul-Haq claimed 4-23. …
