ATHLETICS: Hours upon hours of hard work and dedication has launched Bundaberg youngster Xavier Ulbl into the national spotlight for long jump.

The talented 11-year-old has gone from missing out on the 2018 Bundaberg team for long jump to Queensland's top jumper after a personal best performance at the State 10-12yr old School Athletics carnival at QSAC in Brisbane last week.

The morning of his event, Ulbl said he was going to jump a 4.80m and he did.

Ulbl said he was nervous at the start of the event, but that didn't stop him going on to jump a massive 4.82m.

"My first jump was good but I put my hand back a metre so it wasn't that far, I heard someone jumped 4.74m so I got really nervous and then I did a jump that put me in fourth place," he said which secured his spot in the top eight and another three jumps. …
