Long Weekend of Greyhound Action

Article excerpt

Grafton Greyhounds race tonight with a super ten-event card set down for decision.

This will be the second leg of a big double on this Australia Day holiday after the CRJC having their big meeting in the afternoon. So, after a big day at the gallops the place to be is straight around the corner to the greyhounds where you will see a tremendous night's racing featuring two mouth-watering clashes in races seven and eight, as well as a popular 610m race.

Race seven, The Ladbrokes Boost Stakes NG over 407m, sees the first of our mouth-watering contests.

Demander Valley, drawn perfectly in box one, will be one of the favourites along with recent 305m track record holder Copperhead Rogue, drawn in box six. I am tipping Copperhead Rogue purely because I just think he has more speed into the first turn, and he may pinch a break over his arch rival.

Copperhead Rogue has had 31 starts for 13 wins including a track record here at Grafton over the 305m trip in a sizzling 17.09.

Also, a winner here over this trip in a near record 22.89 as well as Wentworth Park in a flying 15.93, I think Copperhead Rogue might just start a slight favourite in tonight's clash.

Demander Valley, after drawing perfectly, will challenge for favouritism and he can certainly run some very fast times on his night.

A winner of seven of his 16 starts, including a similar best time of 22.90 to his credit, Demander Valley will probably sit behind Copperhead Rogue in the run to the first turn. To see if he can run the red rocket down, we will have to wait until about 8.20 tonight.

When Demander Valley did run his P.B of 22.90 way back in August last year, he beat recent Wauchope Cup winner Chevy Rock by a massive 10 lengths so on his night he is certainly a very quick dog.

The other great race on tonight's card is race eight, The Ladbrokes Cash Out Stakes over 480m. Here we see the second of Dave Irwin's strong team in That's Lil Vicki, certain to start favourite even from the tricky box-four draw. …
