The worst part about the New York Riverside Church Hawks' performance all week and during last night's final of the National Junior Men's Invitational tournament at Jacksonville University's Swisher Gymnasium wasn't how they dominated every opponent they faced -- it was what they lacked.

Riverside's top three players weren't even in town for the four-day event that culminated with a 96-90 triumph over Team Maryland in the championship game.

"Anyone who plays for Riverside is good, so they make up for that," said Hawks' center and tournament Most Valuable Player, Zachary Williams. "We weren't even worried about who was going to score the points."

In each of their four wins, the Hawks were led in scoring by a different player.

Whether it was the sleek-shooting Willie Shaw, who led the team with 27 points last night, or the 6-foot-8 Williams, the offensive-minded Riverside team converted a roster full of Division I talent into its 13th title in the local event. …
