Skippy Combo Doubly Delicious

Article excerpt

What do you get when you combine peanut butter with chocolate chips? The flavor of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, according to David Humphrey and Lydia Leroux. And adding Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate morsels to their creamy peanut butter is exactly what Skippy has done.

Members of the Times-Union Consumer Panel have been eating the Skippy Doubly Delicious Peanut Butter and Chocolate Spread on crackers, bread, toast and even ice cream.

Because of the chocolate chips, you might expect the texture of the spread to be like chunky peanut butter. However, panelists say the chips aren't whole but smooth and creamy.

Two tablespoons of the Doubly Delicious contain 210 calories, 15 gms fat, 130 mgs sodium, 8 gms sugars and no cholesterol.

"If I had kids, I think they'd love the Doubly Delicious Peanut Butter," said Leroux, an executive assistant. "It's a very good combination of flavors. The texture is creamy and the chocolate chips are melted through."

Leroux ate the peanut butter and chocolate combo her favorite way -- on toast. "It was like eating a Reese's cup, only on toast," she said. "It's a little sweet for breakfast, but might be good on graham crackers, as a snack."

Although Jif peanut butter is homemaker Casandra Bordes' favorite brand, she plans to buy more of the Skippy Doubly Delicious. "It's good and the children like it," she said.

Bordes says the combination of peanut butter and chocolate chips go together quite well, but added, "You can taste more peanut butter than chocolate."

"It's not something I'd eat all the time, but it's a nice treat," said Humphrey, a forgery detective, who usually buys Peter Pan Crunchy Peanut Butter.

Humphrey's son, Tyler, doesn't like chocolate and wouldn't try the Doubly Delicious peanut butter. "I won't buy it again," Humphrey said, "because I can't eat a whole jar by myself."

Minister Franz Cornelius sampled the spread several ways, including on ice cream. …
