FOOTING THE BILL

Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter must pay sports apparel manufacturer Puma more than $13.5 million in damages for breach of contract, a Boston arbitrator ruled. Carter signed an endorsement deal with Puma in 1998 shortly after being drafted by the Raptors, but announced late last year that he had terminated the deal. Over the course of last season, Carter stopped wearing Puma's shoes because he said they were hurting his feet. Another clause in the ruling states that Carter cannot endorse another shoe company for three years.

WAGNER NETS MILLION

A Chicago collector sold a Honus Wagner baseball card in an eBay Inc. auction for a record $1.1 million, the first time a card has sold for a seven-figure price. The card's owner, Chicago investor Michael Gidwitz, paid $640,500 for the card in 1996 and sold it following the 10-day auction on eBay, the largest Internet auction site.
